The CarNet'Adapt, Caribean Network to Climate Change Adaptation project is a Caribbean network on adaptation to climate change in agriculture and food.

The project is currently aimed at a range of stakeholders: agriculture and food professionals, local and national authorities, financial institutions, technical and research institutes. It covers the following territories Guadeloupe, Dominica, Martinique and Saint Lucia.

Phase 1 of the project ran from March 2023 to December 2023.

During this phase, the various stakeholders were mobilised, resulting in the official launch of the network on 23 September 2023. It also enabled the needs of stakeholders to be identified in terms of adapting to climate change in the agriculture and food sectors.

CarNet'Adapt organised a number of events, including :

Study trip to St Lucia (18 and 19 October 2023)
Thematic webinars
Training in Guadeloupe for climate and food officers from the Communauté d'Agglomération (7 and 8 November 2023).

There will also be a number of tools to help stakeholders gain a better understanding of climate change and facilitate the implementation of climate change adaptation projects, such as :

Climate profiles for Guadeloupe, Martinique, Dominica and Saint Lucia
Vulnerability profiles for Guadeloupe, Martinique, Dominica and Saint Lucia
Mapping of existing projects on adaptation to climate change in agriculture and food in the territories concerned
Mapping of technical tools for adapting to climate change in agriculture and food that can be mobilised by stakeholders in the regions concerned
Mapping of specific financial mechanisms for adapting to climate change in the agri-food sectors that can be mobilised by stakeholders in the areas concerned.

The project plans to continue in a second phase, with the following main objectives:

To continue to roll out the network in the territories covered by phase 1 and to extend it to other territories in the Caribbean
Focus the network on adaptation and mitigation issues
Open up the network to the themes of sustainable tourism and the circular economy
Continue to structure and lead the network
Continue efforts to provide the network with tools
